When did the store first open?
The much smaller Einerlei was opened in Chassell in 1975. Check out the Einerlei history page for more information.

When was the Einerlei up north opened (Houghton, Michigan)?
The Houghton store was opened in the fall of 1995.

Why did the up north store close?
The store in Houghton featured the artworks of local and regional artists, apparel, fine giftware, and a paper loft with unique greeting cards and handmade papers and stamping supplies.  The store was opened in 1994 and thrived.  The store owner's made the tough decision to close the store in 2005 for the purpose of simplifying efforts to one location.  This allows the Einerlei family to do what we do even better.  We are sincerely grateful for the support that our friends and neighbors in Houghton have given us over the years.
