| Limberlost Creations ARTIST'S
STATEMENT
Most people have heard the expression "what's in a name?"
The inspiration for the name of my business arose from a
deep-seated passion for nature. As a young girl my
grandparents gifted me with an amazing book which forever left it's
imprint. The book, "A Girl of the Limberlost," is the true
story of a young girl who loses her father in a tragic accident in
the great Limberlost swamp of Indiana. She is then forced to rely
on the swamp and surrounding woods to provide her with unique items
she can sell to obtain schoolbooks, pay tuition, etc. In the
process, she becomes enamoured of that which is found in nature.
As I attempted to come up with a name that would capture the
essence of what I hope to express via my art/creations, I had an
"aha" moment. Like the "Girl of the Limberlost" I also trek
through nature discovering treasures. Bits of beach glass are
found along the shores of the Keweenaw while hiking or kayaking, or
a particular rock or stone may capture my imagination. All of
it is natural and beautiful.
With my on-of-a-kind jewelry, I attempt to share my love of the
area by creating pieces for people, which evoke the spirit of
nature and the Keweenaw. |
