| For over forty years, the CCHS has been dedicated
to the mission of providing for the welfare and humane treatment of
animals.
When the shelter was first opened at its present location along
US-41, less than 100 animals were brought in during that year.
Since then, the need for the shelter has increased significantly.
Last year over 800 animals were brought to the shelter!
As the building has been in use for over 50 years, first as a
veterinary clinic and now as the shelter, many problems have
developed: the concrete block structure is riddled with
problems, the sheet metal walls are rusted, the chain link fence
and cement floors of the dog runs have deteriorated beyond
additional repairs, the roof leaks, the septic system is old, and
the interior air is stale and odorous with no ventilation.
The shelter has less than 1,500 square feet of space, and this is
no where near enough room to adequately house the animals and the
rooms needed to care for them. It has become a situation
desperately in need of attention.
Bear cares about his fellow animal friends and the goal to build
a new shelter building. He has taken on the responsibility of
helping his mom and dad as honorary co-chairs of the CCHS capital campaign to raise the money needed!
